0:01 Dear friends, assalamu alaikum.
0:04 I want to share a Hikayah that is transmitted
0:08 in the Arab regions, which says that a man
0:13 was very inappropriate
0:15 in his behavior towards people, and also towards animals.
0:20 It is mentioned as an example that he overloaded his animals
0:25 to the point of exhaustion.
0:27 And they say this man once set out on a journey.
0:32 He loaded his camel or she-camel with about
0:36 double or triple or more than what is normal for that animal to carry.
0:42 You all know that this animal can carry an extraordinary amount.
0:46 And it is an example of endurance,
0:48 strength,
0:49 and so on.
0:51 However, this man has overloaded
0:53 two or three times more than what is normal, usual, etc.
0:59 That animal immediately showed
1:02 signs that it was struggling, so the people present began to criticize him,
1:07 saying, 'Do you see what you are doing? You are unjust to that creature, to that camel.'
1:15 Relieve it.
1:15 Yes, don't go on like that.
1:18 And he would reject them each time, saying, leave me, what do you know?
1:25 And then, to demonstrate to them,
1:28 how much that Camilla can carry,
1:31 he took another bundle,
1:34 or what we would call today a bale,
1:37 that is, straw or
1:40 chaff,
1:41 And
1:42 he placed it on top of that camel.
1:45 And then after that, when he threw it on the camel's back,
1:50 that camel simply fell and all that he had loaded,
1:56 fell on her together,
1:56 with that straw.
1:58 Then the people said, 'Look, we didn't know the straw was so heavy,'
2:01 or rather,
2:06 they began to say how the straw was actually the cause
2:07 for that camel to fall and simply
2:11 to throw off all that burden.
2:15 baci sa sebe sav taj teret.
2:18 This example is mentioned to show that we often become
2:24 burdened
2:25 by trivial matters.
2:26 We do not pay attention to many things,
2:29 that we take, carry, etc.
2:34 And then after that, we think that it was some other trivial matter
2:39 that tipped us over,
2:41 the last straw,
2:43 etc.
2:43 And we forget all the other problems, challenges, and other things we faced.
2:50 with whom we were in some way
2:53 burdened,
2:54 literally speaking.
2:56 And then after that, we blame some trivial things as the cause, while ignoring
3:02 the fact that we had previously
3:05 overdone it,
3:06 far more than what is in line with our capabilities.
3:10 So these two key messages remind us to be mindful of the burden assigned to us.
3:19 A burden we can carry,
3:23 both physically, mentally, and spiritually.
3:25 Ali also,
3:26 this example teaches us to pay attention to the details,
3:31 for someone said that the details,
3:33 are actually significant matters.
3:39 And often we
3:40 look at that bundle of straw or that bale of hay,
3:45 but we do not see the other numerous burdens that are truly
3:50 wrong,
3:51 for us to reach out to.
3:52 in our lives,
3:54 in our daily lives,
3:57 relationships
3:58 etc.
4:01 This instructive hikayah
4:02 actually pertains to each of us, so I ask Allah, the Exalted,
4:07 to reflect on it,
4:10 to simply
4:11 try to
4:12 think about
4:13 what burdens we carry,
4:15 which all times
4:17 And what burdens do we carry on our backs
4:20 And how well can we truly bear them
4:25 And for how long.
4:26 And then to imagine ourselves, are there perhaps those little things
4:32 That cause us more headaches
4:35 And dangers than there are benefits from them.
4:39 May Allah, the Exalted, reward you. Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
