This lecture explores the concept of 'rush' in Islamic teachings, particularly discussing the hadith that states 'rush is from Shaytan.' The speaker emphasizes that while human nature inclines towards haste, not all forms of urgency are negative. Positive examples include hastening to serve guests, preparing for funerals, and facilitating marriages. The lecture cites Quranic references and hadiths to illustrate when urgency is commendable, contrasting it with situations where it can lead to poor decisions.

0:00 Dear friends, peace be upon you.
0:03 I assume you have all heard the saying or hadith attributed to it,
0:13 that haste is from Shaytan's work.
0:21 Is haste truly from Shaytan's work or not? And when can it be allowed,
0:27 or when is it prohibited?
0:28 Regarding this hadith attributed to Imam Tirmidhi, it is recorded,
0:30 that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said,
0:33 that haste is indeed from Shaytan.
0:38 And so on.
0:40 There is, of course, disagreement among Islamic scholars regarding its authenticity.
0:44 This is a narration.
0:45 However,
0:46 when haste is the work of Shaytan and when it actually isn't.
0:52 Indeed, it is very important to understand that the Exalted Allah says,
1:05 And man was created to be hasty. It is in human nature to want things quickly.
1:25 To want to become rich quickly, to achieve results quickly, to reach goals, to attain success.
1:28 So, this is in the nature of each one of us.
1:29 Therefore, it is simply something that is part of human nature against which we sometimes have to struggle,
1:32 or we must control that urge we have for speed and so on.
1:38 So this is one of the characteristics of man.
1:43 I was in a hurry,
1:44 so I rushed to come to you
1:48 as soon as possible. So I hurried to you, my Lord, and this is mentioned as an example of positive
1:54 haste.
1:55 Indeed, sometimes one should hurry,
1:58 especially when it comes to doing good, when it involves helping someone, removing a hardship from someone,
2:06 being a constructive
2:08 member of a certain
2:09 situation, and so on. All these are opportunities that tell us it is good, desirable, commendable,
2:17 that we should indeed hurry.
2:19 Thus, haste in itself is considered blameworthy,
2:23 because a person can be impulsive at that time,
2:27 can make wrong decisions, can cause someone
2:31 harm in the sense of
2:32 endangering another's life, for example, through hasty actions,
2:36 inappropriate
2:37 actions,
2:38 ways,
2:39 and so on. So, these are
2:43 negative haste.
2:44 Incredible,
2:45 in a way, rushing towards something.
2:48 And this is what is meant when it is said that haste is the work of Shaytan.
2:52 Because in reality, one does not think enough, does not prepare enough,
2:57 simply,
2:58 a person rushes headlong into a certain situation. And this is what is bad. However, when
3:03 a person hurries to do a good deed that is good and has no possibility of something bad coming from that haste, then it actually becomes a positive
3:14 thing. So you have in the narration an interesting thing, from the Prophet
3:20 may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, who actually says the same thing, he says, 'Haste is the work of Shaytan, except in five matters.'
3:21 He says, haste is the work of Shaytan except
3:30 There are five things.
3:32 There are five things when haste is not a matter of shaytan,
3:36 but rather it is something commendable to be hasty. The first thing is
3:42 to host the Musafir. Yes,
3:44 to provide for
3:45 the Musafir,
3:46 to offer the Musafir
3:48 food, drink,
3:50 a feast, and so on. This is also mentioned in the Quran when Ibrahim, peace be upon him,
3:52 hastens to honor the guests who came to him in the form of men.
4:14 So, we should offer food, drink, or anything needed for our Musafir.
4:19 So, that is the first thing, so we conclude with al' ashamu.
4:23 May Allah's mercy be upon him.
4:23 upon this matter which
4:26 is
4:27 the first thing or the first exception is to hasten to honor the guest. The second thing is, he says, regarding
4:34 the funeral,
4:35 to hasten with the preparation of the janazah.
4:38 That is,
4:39 it is makruh to delay with
4:43 The burial of a deceased Muslim.
4:45 So, when a person passes away,
4:47 it is sunnah
4:48 to bury that person as soon as possible.
4:51 We have other hadiths that support this narration, indicating that we should hasten the janazah as much as possible. It is customary for us, in the case of death, that if a person
5:05 dies today, they are buried the next day.
5:07 If that is not possible after the Dhuhr prayer, then after the Asr prayer. This is roughly the practice. Why after Asr? It is postponed due to people's work hours, so they can attend the janazah after work, etc. There are cases,
5:22 you had cases among the companions,
5:24 that if someone dies,
5:26 when death occurs during the day, they bury him by night or if he passes away in the evening, they prepare him in the shroud and bury him as soon as possible in the morning.
5:39 For example, when you go there, if God wills, for Hajj or Umrah,
5:46 you will see that after every prayer, especially Fajr,
5:51 some places in India have Jumu'ah. Why? Because they hurry for Jumu'ah.
5:59 And of course, there are many people who die there,
6:01 for whom Jumu'ah is prayed. So it is good to hurry for Jumu'ah.
6:03 Generally, the next thing,
6:04 says the Prophet (peace be upon him),
6:07 is to marry off a girl who is ready for marriage,
6:18 or for a young man to marry who is ready for marriage. That is, youth should not delay marriage without reason.
6:25 So if there are mature individuals, a mature girl or a
6:28 It is advised,
6:29 therefore, to postpone the marriage,
6:32 and yes, I don't know, they date for a year, two, five,
6:37 and without a doubt,
6:39 they invest,
6:41 putting themselves at risk of committing sins, haram, and so on. Therefore, this is definitely one of the things that Sharia recommends,
6:49 so simply
6:50 we encourage young people to marry earlier, when they are ready, when they acquire
6:57 the conditions, or prerequisites,
6:59 to enter into marriage. Of course, this does not mean that we should have a situation like today where the limit
7:07 The age of entering marriage is increasing, now around 27 to 29 years on
7:14 average for both men and women, which is definitely wrong. We enter a
7:22 much more mature age when many things are expected from a young couple.
7:31 The fourth thing to hurry up with, based on this hadith, is the day.
7:39 This translates to measuring the debt.
7:41 So, as soon as possible,
7:43 we should measure the debt.
7:46 What does this specifically mean? If we agreed
7:50 to return some money or something we borrowed
7:57 within a month, if we can do it earlier, alhamdulillah, but if not, then when that month comes, it becomes obligatory for us.
8:06 Because we have not returned the debt as we agreed and as it is prescribed.
8:12 Therefore, it is commendable to hasten in returning the debt.
8:17 Of course, in our culture and in these areas, we have a big problem with debts.
8:26 Where people, when you lend them money, either do not return it on time,
8:33 or pretend not to know you, or avoid you in some way.
8:47 You have to justify why they should return your money. These are really very, very ugly things,
8:48 and for this reason, one should hasten in returning the debt. The last thing he mentions,
8:51 that is the fifth, is about Tawbah, or repentance after sin.
8:56 A person should repent to Allah, the Exalted, as soon as possible,
8:59 after committing a certain sin.
9:00 It is therefore recommended
9:01 you have clear Quranic ayahs that indeed,
9:04 the Exalted, where He says,
9:07 in fact, to hasten to repentance, so that a person should repent to Allah,
9:12 after having consciously or unconsciously committed something,
9:16 is certainly among the
9:18 beautiful signs, meaning that this repentance will be accepted from that person. Thus, we should hasten to repent for the sin we have committed.
9:27 Whether that sin is towards the Exalted Allah or towards human rights, we must try to turn to the Exalted Allah as soon as possible. This
9:36 are five things when we should indeed hasten,
9:40 and that is to honor the guest,
9:42 Hurry with the preparation of the janazah, that is, the janazah prayer.
9:48 And with the marriage,
9:49 that is, the marriage of young Insan who are getting married.
9:52 To measure the debt we owe as soon as possible.
9:59 And the last thing is to repent from sins, as soon as possible.
10:05 We are in a situation.
10:07 So this reflection on speed, I ask Allah to make us among those who are thoughtful,
10:14 among those who rush to do good and promote good, and may Allah
10:20 benefit people from that good, and of course, we benefit from the good, but at the same time,
10:28 not to be among those who hastily commit wrong actions.
10:30 So, they rush, and after that, they do injustice to people.
10:34 May Allah, the Exalted, reward you. Until next time. Wa assalamu alaikum, rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
