0:01 Dear friends, assalamu alaikum.
0:04 I want to share a Hikayah that is narrated
0:08 in Arabic regions, which says that a man
0:13 had very inappropriate
0:15 behavior towards people, and also towards animals.
0:20 It is mentioned, as an example, that he
0:24 overloaded his animals
0:25 to the point of exhaustion.
0:27 They say this man once set out on a journey.
0:32 And he loaded his camel or she-camel with approximately
0:36 double or triple or more than what is normal for that animal to carry.
0:42 You all know that this animal can carry an extraordinary amount.
0:46 And it is an example of endurance,
0:48 strength,
0:49 and so on.
0:51 However, this man has overloaded,
0:53 two or three times more than what is normal, usual, etc.
0:59 That animal immediately showed
1:02 signs that it was struggling, so the people present began to criticize him,
1:07 saying, 'Do you see what you are doing? You are unjust to that creature, to that camel, to that she-camel.'
1:15 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
1:15 don't do that so much and so on.
1:18 And he rejected them every time, saying, let me be, you know nothing.
1:25 And then, to demonstrate to them,
1:28 how much his Camilla can carry,
1:31 he took another bundle
1:34 or what we would call today a bale,
1:37 of straw, that is,
1:40 of chaff,
1:41 And
1:42 He placed it on top of that camel.
1:45 And then after that, when he threw it on top of the camel or she-camel,
1:50 then that she-camel simply fell and everything he had,
1:56 loaded,
1:56 fell on her together,
1:58 with that straw.
2:01 Then the people said, 'Look, we didn't know that straw was so heavy,'
2:06 that is,
2:07 they started saying how in fact the straw was the cause
2:11 for that she-camel to fall and simply...
2:15 Kiss yourself, all that burden.
2:18 This example is mentioned as an example, so that we often become
2:24 burdened
2:25 by trivial matters.
2:26 That we do not pay attention to many things,
2:29 that we take, carry, etc.
2:34 And then after that we think that it was exactly that other trivial matter
2:39 that spilled
2:41 the cup
2:43 etc.
2:43 We forget all other problems, challenges, and everything else we faced,
2:50 with which we were somehow
2:53 burdened,
2:54 literally speaking.
2:56 And then after that, we blame some trivial things as the cause, while ignoring
3:02 the fact that we had previously
3:05 overdone it,
3:06 far more than what is in line with our capabilities.
3:10 So these two key messages are to take care of, in a way, the burden that has been placed upon us. A burden we can carry,
3:19 both physically and psychologically,
3:23 Ali I am spiritual.
3:25 But also,
3:26 this example teaches us to pay attention to the details,
3:31 for someone said that the details,
3:33 are actually significant matters.
3:39 And we often
3:40 look at that bundle of straw or that pile of sins,
3:45 but do not see the other numerous burdens that are truly
3:50 wrong,
3:51 to reach out.
3:52 in our lives,
3:54 in our daily routines,
3:57 relationships
3:58 etc.
4:01 This instructive hikayah
4:02 actually relates to each of us, so I ask Allah, the Exalted,
4:07 to reflect on it,
4:10 to simply
4:11 try to
4:12 think deeply
4:13 what burdens we carry,
4:15 what times we face,
4:17 and what weight we bear on our backs.
4:20 And how well we can truly carry it,
4:25 and for how long.
4:26 Then we should imagine if there are little things that overwhelm us,
4:32 and cause us more headaches,
4:35 and dangers than benefits.
4:39 May Allah, the Exalted, reward you. Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy.
